bahasa.

okay, the americans speak english,
the english (british) speaks english,
french people speaks french
dutch people speaks dutch and so on...

indonesian people? speaks indonesian.

actually, i bumped into this problem a few months ago...
when some american ask me... "do you speak bahasa?" after knowing that i originally came from indonesia.
i was "what???"

okay, and then... i totally forgot when, but i do remember a friend of mind telling some random white dude, that indonesian people speaks "bahasa" or "bahasa indonesia" instead of indonesian.

what the fuck?

bahasa means language.
therefore... indonesian people speaks language????? or indonesia(n) language????

are we trying to make ourselves exclusive by not participating with a group of countries who just named their language after their country?

i can understand when someone will say "indonesian speaks malay" okay... yeah,
indonesian language roots is malay... but c'mon, what the fuck is "bahasa".
dude, i'm not that dumb.
i went to a pretty good highschool, with a superb (ha!) english teacher,
who happened to teach us that language=bahasa.

so then, i am assuming, that aside from "bahasa indonesia," my parents also speak "bahasa batak," my mom though are pretty good with her "bahasa jawa" argh c'mon people...

the world is complicated enough!
